Erebus disaster

Erebus disaster

 On a low clouded day at 12.49 pm NZST, the aircraft crashed into a slope at Mt Erebus killing all 237 passengers and 20 crew on board.

Flight te901 left Mangere airport and was flying to Antarctica when there was an error and the plane body slammed into Mt Erebus

James K Baxter one of New Zealand’s most accomplished poets died at the age of 46 in Auckland.  Hundreds of people attended the full Maori tangihanga.

Baxter had devoted the last years of his life to social work among alcoholics and drug addicts.

Peter Snell Is The Runner Of Gold

Eight days leading up to the Olympic 1500 m final Peter Snell had already run five races. He won the final of 800 m and the 1500 m finals as well.

Snell’s time of 3 minutes 38.1 seconds was 2.5 seconds outside the world record held by the previous Olympic champion Australian Herb Elliott.

 Sir James Prendergast the chief of justice would not let the Maori have there landed back. The land would be for a Maori school. And he said the Treaty of Waitangi was worthless.

Jean Batten left for New Zealand from Kent, England at 4:20 AM on 5 October 1936. She arrived in Darwin in 5 days 21 hours 24 hours faster than the previous record holder Jimmy Broadbent.

There was a crowd of 6000 waiting for her. Ther travel which had taken 11 days 45 minutes in total.

  Anti-terror raids in Urewera

15 October 2007 there was an anti-terror raid happened in the city of Urewera. They went to Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, and Wellington. And after 12 months of activist groups were caught. 
Among those arrested was Tuhoe. Police claimed Iti was involved in running military training camps in the Urewera ranges.
